What is Lenticular Printing?

Lenticular printing focuses on the presentation of a printed media, that when exposed to the eye at different orientations, will present varying or moving 2D and 3D pictures. For many of us, the most vivid recollection of lenticular printing was the political button and baseball card phenomenon from a few decades ago. Though lenticular printing and imagery have been around long before these items appeared, one might consider that the golden, if not most commercially popular, era for lenticular objects.

Through the years, various technological issues have continually seemed to stand in the way of lenticular printing advances. With the advent of the Indigo printer, now wholly-owned by Hewlett-Packard, many of the impediments to successful lenticular printing have fallen away. Many of the quantity, price, print size, and quality issues associated with older approaches to “going lenticular” have been put to rest with HP’s advancements of its Indigo line. The reliability of the equipment, combined with the unbelievable quality of produced materials has opened the door wide for many printing options that were once only a dream.
